John Stodder of Hingham was the first of his family to migrate into the Americas. He, his wife Hannah and their four children left England sometime around 1638 because he was granted land in Hingham, Massachusetts in 1638. He was made a full freeman of the Colony on 18 May 1642. John Stodder, planter, died at Hingham, 19 Dec 1661. He made a will on 20 Nov 1661, which was proved the following 31 of January. His oldest daughter, Hannah, married Gershom Wheelock, son of the Rev. Ralph Wheelock, "the founder of Medfield.
