John Crosby
- Born: Abt 1470, Stillingfleet, Yorkshire, England 1029
- Marriage (1): Unknown
- Died: After 1511, Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, East Riding, Yorkshire, England
Noted events in his life were:
• Information: 285 John Crosby, born about 1470, was apparently the eldest son of another John Crosby. The records of his marriage, death and will have not been found, but he is known to have 5 sons, Robert, Alan, James, Thomas and Richard.
"Yorkshire Ancestry of the Three Crosby Sisters," NEHGR, 1965, Vol 119, pages 244-250
• Background Information: 665 John Croby, Jr., appears as a witness to the will of John Grene of Stillingfleet, dated 27 Jul 1506 [P. & E. York Wills, vol. 7, fol. 7]. It is highly likely that soon after this, John Jr. disposed of his interests in Stillingfleet and moved since the name Crosby does not appear in the subsequent parish records. It is very probable he is the "John Crosbye" who was a witness in a court case between Sir Marmaduke Constable, Knight, and Sir John Salvayne, Knight, in regard to the lands in Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, in 1511. [Assize Rolls, East Tirding of Yorkshire, 3 Henry VIII] It is also highly likely that the next generation of Crosbys who appear in the Holme-on-Spalding-Moor records in and after 1523 were his children.
