Juana Griego

• Background Information. 252
Juan Griego II was already married to Juana de la Cruz in 1626; she was the daughter of Juan de la Cruz, "el Catalán," and Beatriz de los Angeles. In 1661 he declared that he was born in Santa Fé and was a Capitán fifty-six years old at the time. In this same year he was referred to as being of the same age and having recently returned from a prolonged stay outside New Mexico. Although dead before 1680, he was still remembered after the Reconquest in connection with his old homestead at La Cañada.

Their known children, all Griegos, were Nicolás, Blas, María de la Cruz Alemán, wife of Diego López del Castillo, Graciana, married to Francisco Xavier, and Juana, nicknamed "La Clériga."
