Balderston and Osbalderston were held as one manor of the honor of Clitheroe in thegnage by yearly service of 6s. and one sore sparrow hawk or 2s. [Lancs. Inq. & Extents, i. 217]. Hugh, living about the middle of the 12^th century, was the father of Ailsi, who gave Sunderland Holm to the monks of Sawley about the end of the reign of Henry II [Harl. MS. 112, fol.61b]. This grant was attested to by Ughtred, son of Huck, the ancestor of the Singleton family.
