• Background Information: 252 Francisco López, a native of Jerez, was already dead in 1626 when his family was involved in some dark doings in Santa Fe. His widow was María de Villafuerte, forty years of age and a native of Quatitlan. They had a grown daughter, Juana, married to Francisco de Anaya Almazán. Father Benavides made some uncomplimentary remarks about her and her sons, whose names we do not know. Perhaps this family is the origin of the López de Gracia group.
Francisco, early in the century, fired his arquebus at Governor Argüello, and this might be the cause for his early demise.
