• Background Information. 688 Sir Adam de Hocton was written Knight in the year 1266 and in 1283. He is mentioned among the witness to a charter of Henry, Duke of Lancaster to the Abbot of Whalley, in Lancashire. His wife was named Agnes, who survived him.
Adam de Hocton's children were:
Sir Richard, styled Filius dominus Adoe in 1274. He was the Sheriff of the County of Lancaster in 1301, and office in those days of great trust and authority. He had a son, Richard, who died without issue, and two daughters, Margaretta and Johanna, who married William , son of Adam de Gaistock, and left a son, Edmund who held lands in Caterale, calleg Howarth.
Adam, who on account of the death of Richard, without male issue, succeeded to the estate, was styled also in deeds, Filius dominus Adoe in 1292; and afterwards Frater Magister Ricardi. Sir Adam married Avicia Hoghwich, widow of Roger Asheton. He died in 1280.
