• Background Information. 827 John Farington was succeeded by his son William de Farington [Penwortham Priory, 17-20; Assize R. 424, m. 1 d] and his grandson William [Penwortham Priory, 18 note] ; the latter in 1348 obtained a grant of free warren in his demesne lands of Leyland and Farington, and licence to enclose a hundred acres of land and wood in those townships and make a park [Charter R. 143 , 22 Edw. III, m. 30, no. 41].

• Background Information. 1108 William de ffarynton, eldest son, was grantor of eight acres of land to Evesham 10 Edward III. By a deed dated Tuesday on the morrow of St. Elfrid the Bishop, 6 Edward III, he settled four acres of waste in Leyland on his brother John. He was living 1 Aug 33 Edward II, when by two deeds, he settled lands in Leyland on his sons John, Thomas, Nicholas, Ralph and Roger, successively. He married a woman named Joan, who married, as her second husband, Thomas de Radeely sometime after 46 Edward III.
