Gautier, then was a younger son of Renaud de Gournay and Alberarda, his wife, and founded this house with his elder brother's leave.
The date of this charter can be fixed within certain limits because tof he names of witnesses who were Richard I., Duke of Normany; Richard, his son; Robert, Archbishop of Rouen; and Count Robert. The charter must have been made between 989-996.
Reginald and Alberarda flousihed during the years of Richard I, Duke of Normandy. Their rank is shown by the fact that two successive dukes witnessed the deed by which their younger son founded a priory, and that they had large possession with which to endow it.
