• Background Information. 141 Geoffrey de Mandevillde (of Great Wltham, Saffron Walden, High Easter and Plehey, Essex, Edmonton and Efield, Middlesex, Sawbridgeworth, Herts., Quarrendon and Amersham, Buks, Steatley. Berks, Long Compton, co. Warwick & Constable of the tower of London ) was the son and heir of William de Mandeville of the same (who died in or just before 1130) by (it is said, but probably erroneoulsy) Margaret, daughter of Eoun de Rie, Dapifer, of Colcheter, Essex. William was the son and heir of Geoffrey de Mandeville (who had held the aforesaid manors at the Domesday Survey), by his 1st wife Athelaise.
