• Background Information. 721 Alan la Zouche, Baron Zouche of Ashby from 1299-1314, was born 9 Oct 1267, and died in 1313/14. He married Eleanor de Segrave. He served in flanders, Gascony and Scotland, fighting the vanguard at the battle of falkirk in Edward I's victory over William Wallace in 1298. he was summoned to Parliament 6 Feb 1298/99. Beginning in Feb 1311/12, he served two years as Constable of Rockingham Castle and keeper of the forests between Oxford and Stamford.

• Background Information. 141 Alan la Zouche, Baron by writ, son and heir of Roger la Zouche and son of Ela Longespée, was in service of the King in Gascony, Oct 1288, when he was one of the hostages given by Edward I to Alfonso of Aragon for fulfilment of certain agreements. He was sesin of his father lands after doing homage on 13 Oct 1289. He was in the King's service in Scotland, June 1291, served in Gascony 1295-1296 and was present at the action outside Bordeaux on 28 Mar 1296, when his standard bearer was captured by the French. He was summoned for service in Fanders in 1297, and attended the Councils in Rochester and London in that same year. Again, he was in service of the King in Scotland in 1297-1313, fighting in the battle of Falkirk on 22 Jul 1298.
Alan la Zouche ws summoned to parliament from 6 Feb 1299 (27 Edward I) up to 26 Nov 1313 (7 Edward II) by writs where he is called Alano la Zousche, Lord Zouche. He was summoned, 18 Jan 1307/98, to Edward II's Coronation and had a protection, 4 Dec 1308, for a pilgrimage to Santiago. He was Constable of Rockingham Castle and keeper of the forests between the bridges of Oxford and Stamford, 3 Feb 1311/12 to Feb 1313/14.
Alan la Zouche is said to have married Eleanor, daughter of Sir Nicholas de Segrave, lord of Seagrave. Alan died without male heirs, but his barony by writ of 1299 fell into abeyance between his three daughters and coheirs.
