All the previous genealogical records show this Joseph Walker to be the son of Joseph Walker and Elizabeth Martin. DNA test on descents of Joseph Walker tell a different story and connect him with Captain Samuel Walker instead.

• Census, 1 Jun 1840, Washington, Erie, Pennslyvania. 544 Joseph Walker is listed as a Pensioners for Revolutionary or Military services, aged 82.
• Dates & Events. 543 Joseph Walker, . . . moved to Erie county, Pennsylvania, where he died at age eighty-five years old. He enlisted in the Revolutionary army . . . After his marriage and birth of some of his children, he moved to Remsen, Oneida county, New York, and in 1816, settled at Edinboro, Erie County, Pennsylvania. He there purchased a tract of 100 acres, on which he resided until hid death.
He was an ardent Whig in political and was on of the leaders of that party in his county. He was highly respected in his locality and greatly beloved. The sword and canteen that the old hero carried during the Revolution are now owned by his grandson, Judson Walker.
Joseph Walker married Cecilia Cooley, sister of Matthew Cooley. There children were Walter, Amos, James, Dean, Joseph, Russell, William, Rachel, and Elizabeth (Betsy). The mother of these children died in Edinboro, aged about eighty-five years old.

Dear Madam:
      You are advised that it appears from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim, W. 3368, that Joseph Walker was born 29 Dec 1761, place not stated.
      He enlisted in Kingsley, Connecticut in May 1776 and served one year as a private in Captain Banoni Cutler's company, Colonel Andrew Ward's Connecticut regiment, and was in the battles of White Plain and Trenton.
He enlisted in Norwich, Connecticut in may 1777 and served as private in Captain Jedeiah Hyde's company, Colonel Durkee's Connecticut regiment, was in the battle of Monmouth, was made a corporal in Aug 1780, and served until in June 1783.
      He was allowed pension on his application executed 20 Jun 1818, at which time he was living in Conneant Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania.
      He died 12 Sep 1843.
      The soldier married 28 Oct 1787 in Lyme, New London County, Connecticut, Sela Cooley, who was born 25 Jun 1766.
      She was allowed Pension on her application executed 7 Feb 1844, at which lime she was living in Washington Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania.

• Background Information: Descendants of Capt. Samuel Walker. Joseph Walker was born on 29 December 1761 in Connecticut or possibly Massachusetts. He appeared in the census in 1790 in New London Co., Connecticut. He appeared in the census in 1800 in Remsen, Oneida, New York. Joseph appeared in the census in 1810 in Oneida Co., New York. He appeared in the census in 1820 in Washington Township, Erie, Pennsylvania. He appeared in the census in 1840 in Washington Township, Erie, Pennsylvania. • Background Information: "Walker, Joseph --- Buried on the old Walker homestead in Erie County, Pa. (now owned by Joseph Barnett 1928) about one mile S. E. of Edinboro. The tombstones of Joseph and his wife are leaning against the cherry tree stump, which came up on the grave of Joseph Walker. His inscription reads: 'Joseph Walker, Died Sept. 12, 1843, in the 82nd yr. of his age. A Patriot of the Revolution. He fought the battles of his country, for years enjoyed his freedom, and now like a shock of corn fully ripe, is gone to receive the reward of his labors.' Sent in by T.R. Lewis, a great grandson of Joseph Walker. Joseph Walker applied for a pension June 20, 1818, resident of Conneaut Twp., Erie County, Penna. Enlisted May, 1776, at Norwich, Conn. and served 1 year as private under Capt. Benoni Cutler; dischared at Chatham, N.Y. Enlisted May, 1777, and served to June, 1783, as private and corporal in Capt. Jedediah Hyde's Co., Col. Durkee's 4th Conn. Regt. Was at battles of White Plains, Trenton and Monmouth.
