He married Gwenllian of Powys, daughter of Madog ap Maredudd King of Powys and his wife Susann of Gwynedd. They had eleven children, including Rhys "Gryg" who married Matilda de Clare, daughter of Richard de Clare Earl of Hertford and his wife Amice of Gloucester.
