• Family Background. 498 This is a tentative link based on information from To the End of the Earth, A History of the Crypto-Jews of New México written by Stanley M. Hordes. The Governor of Nuevo León was Luis de Carvajal, and Luis de Carvajal's parent were Gaspar de Carvajal and Catalina de León who were from Sayago, near Zamora in León, Spain. His grandparents were Francisca de Carvajal and Gutierre Vasques de la Cueva, also from Sayago. (p. 73)
In Inquisition records, Juan de Carvajal is identified as Luis de Carvajal paternal uncle and a "man of Arm." Since Juan de Carvajal's son, Juan Victoria Carvajal was assiciated with Luis Carvajal in Nuevo León, it can be assumed that Juan Victoria Carvajal's father, is one and the same of the paternal uncle mentioned in the Inquisition records.
