~Ancestral Roots of Certain American Colonists Who Came to America before 1700, 8th Edition, 262:26, Emma de Blois, illegitimate daughter Étienne II comté de Blois, and half sister of Stephen, King of England, married Herbert of Winchester also called Herbert the Chamberlain, Chamberlain and Treasure under William II and Henry I, and held lands Hampshire in 1086, and afterwards held other lands in Bedforshire, Hampshire, Gloucester and Yorkshire. Emma and Herbert were the parents of Herbert Fitz Herbert, succeeded to his father's lands in 1130. 160

Herbert, styled "count of Vermandois," according to Burke's A Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Commoners of Great Britain and Ireland, Vol. IV, 1838 edition, p. 178, came to England with the first William and served as Chamberlain to the second William. He is mentioned in the Battle Abbey roll, and was rewarded with lands in Hampshire. His wife was Emma, daughter of Stephen, Earl of Blois by Adela, daughter of William the Conqueror. They were the parents of his successor, Herbert Fitz Herbert, called Herbert of Winchester.


Herbert married Emma de Blois, daughter of Étienne II comté de Blois and Unknown. (Emma de Blois was born after 1080.)
