• Background Information: 141 Orderic calls Simón de Montfort the son of Amauri. Simón attested a charter of Henry I to St. Germain-des-Prés in 1058. He took a leading role in persuading William, Duke of Normandy, to bring Ralph de Toeni and Hugh de Grandmesnil out of exile. He was at Fécamp, 13 Apr 1066, with William and his court. He was in Paris in 1067, and witnessed a charter of Phillip I to St. Martin-des-Cahmps, and again, with his son Amauri, to attest to another charter of the same king.
Simón was married, first to Isabella, daughter of Hugh Bardoul, Seigneur of Brozes & his wife Dame de Nogent. They had a son, Amauri, who is heir to his father, and a daughter Isabella who married Ralph de Toeni. His second wife is unknown, but his third wife was Agnes, sister and in her issue, heir of William, third comté d'Evreux. This made her the step-sister of Ralph de Toeni and daughter of Richard, the second count of Evreux. By her it appears that he had sons, Richard and Simón, who in turn succeeded their half-brother Amauri and William. They also had a daughter named Bertrade. Simón, died shortly after 1087 and was buried at Épernon.
