• Background Information. 535 William de Braose, son of John and Margaret, in the 41 of Henry III, was commanded by the king to defend his own marches against Llewellyn ap Grffth who was menacing the marches of Wales with a great army. The next year he was summoned to attend the king at Chester. Two years later, he was again in arms, this time under Roger de Mortimer, against the Welsh. He died in 1290, leaving by Isabel de Clare, his first wife, a son, William de Braose. ~Burke's A Genealogical History of the Dormant, Abeyant, Forfeited, and Extinct Peerages, pg. 72
• Background Information. 141 Sir William de Breuses, (Braose, Brewes) was the son and heir of John de Broase, Lord of Bramber and Gower, by Margaret, the daughter of Llewelyn ap Iorwerth, Prince of North Wales. He succeeded his father in 1232, sometime before 18 July, and was of full age sometime before 15 Jul 1245. He was summoned cum equis et armis from 14 Mar 1256/7 until 14 Mar 1282/3 by writs directed to Willelmo de Breuse, Brehuse or Brewes. He was recorded to have sat in the Parliament of Apr-May 1290.
Sir William married, first, Aline, daughter of Thomas de Multon of Burgh-on-Sands, Cumberland, by Maud, daughter and heir of Hubert de Vaus of Gilsland, Cumberland. For his second wife, he married Agnes, daughter of Nicholas de Moeles of Cadbury, Somersetshire. His third wife was Mary, daughter of William de Ros of Helmsley, Lord Ros, by Isabel, daughter and heir of William d'Aubigny, of Belvoir. Sir William died shortly before 6 Jan 1290/1.
