• Background Information. 713 Sir Ralph Mainwaring, son and heir of Roger de Mesnilwarin, was justice of Chester in the latter part of the reign of Henry II. Sir Ralph's wife was a daughter of Hugh de Kevelioc, the Earl of Chester. His father-in-law gave him the service of three knight's fees in frank marriage. The children of Sir Ralph and his wife Amicia were:
• Sir Roger Mainwaring, son and heir Randle Mainwaring of Great Warford • Beatred, wife of Henry de Alditelgh (Audley), who was given Smallwood, Snelson, half of Picmere and rents in Chester in frank marriage by charter.
