• Web Reference: Charles Crawley's Medieval Lands, Lotharingia . "Lothario rege" is named "filio imperatoris Lotharii" by Folcuin [Folcuini Gesta Abbatum Lobiensium 13, MGH SS IV, p. 61]. The Annales Bertiniani record that Emperor Lothaire gave Frisia to his son Lothaire in 855 [Annales Bertiniani II 855]. Lothaire married Teutberga, daughter of Boso comté d'Arles. He attempted to annul this marriage in order to marry his mistress Waldra, but was opposed by the Archbishop of Reims and Pope Nicholas. Lothaire died of malaria.
