• Dates & Events. 82,503 Thomas Nye, son of Ralph Nye and Margaret Meryge married September 9, 1585 at St. Andrew Hubbard, Katherine Poulsden of London. She was a daughter of the late Mr. Poulsden of Horley, county Surrey [Marriage Liscenses Bishop of London Court].
He bargained and sold to William Poulsden the same Parish, yoeman, his wife's brother, a messuage or tenement builded with a croft adjoing, containing sixteen acres in Bidlenden, County Kent. [Clerk of the Peace Rolls]. William Poulsden then granted to Thomas Nye an annuity of four shillings arising from the said lands. Ralph Nye was executor of his father estate in 1484 [Proceedings Court of Claims]
His Children with Katherine:
• Henry, marticulated at Oxford University, November 24, 1609, at the age of 22 years. He recieved his degree, Bachellor of Arts, June 12, 1611. In 1615, he was Vicar of Cobham, Surrey. He was Rector of Clapham Sussex in 1630. (Alumni Oxoniensis et sequitur) His son, John, matriculted at Oxford, December 12, 1634, aged 14 years and was made Bachelors of Arts, May 26, 1638.
• Philip, matriculted at Oxford, June 28, 1616, when he was 20 years of age. He received the dregree, Bachellor of Arts, April 24, 1619. In 1654, he was Rector of St. Michal's Cornhill and Acton Middlesex in 1645. He resided for some time at Hayes near Slinford, Sussex and later emigrated to Arnheim, Holland and returned to England in 1840 in company with John Canne. In Oliver Cromwell's time he was a celebrated preacher and there are many interesting notes about him in Henry G. Bohn's edition of Butler's "Hudibras." He married Judith, who died in 1680. He died at Brompton, Kensington Parish, September 1678, and was buried at St. Michael's Cornhill, September 27, 1678 [Lanc-Eng`l Ch. • John, reported to have been "a very lively disposition" which the following taken from the "Middlesex Sessions Roll Peace Reg." would ten to confirm: "July 16, 12 James I (1614) John Nye brought in by warrant for abusinge Sir William Smith at Hammersmith and beatinge Richard Bushe verye square upon the head; said John Nye to put in surities for his good behavior and appear next session of the Peace."
