K. S. B. Keats-Rohan, Domesday Descendants, Vol. II, Keats-Rohan has him as Walter Filius Other, a norman tenant-in-chief, keeper of the forest of Windsor and castellan of Windsor castle, he and his heirs were surnamed de Windsore, p. 455

Walter, at the time of the general survey by William the Conqueror, was Castellan of Winsor, Warden of the forests in Berkshire and possessed serveral Lordships in the counties of Middlesex, Hants and Bucks that Dominus Otherus is said to have held in the time of Edward the Confessor.

Walter's eldest son and heir was William who took his father's surname Windsor. His second son was Gerard of whom the Gerards and other families descended.
