• Background Information: 252 Bartolomé Lobato, a native of Sombrerete, Zacatecas, New Spain, was thirty or thirty-three years old in 1696. He claimed to be among the colonists who arrived in 1695 along with the settlers who came to New Mexico with Páez Hurtado. By 1712, he was a captain in the army. He lived in Santa Cruz de la Cañada, when asked for land at Yunque and Chama in 1714. His wife was Lucía Ana Negrete, also a native of Zacatecas.
His two sons were Juan Cayetano and Agustín. Likely, Bartolomé who was married to Juana Carillo and lived for a time in the Alburquerque area.
