Noted events in his life were:
• Background Information. 152 In Barnstable in 1640. Samuel was a Mariner, one of the purchasers of Oyster Bay, Long Island in April 1653, and had his vessel seized for intercourse with the Dutch, then our enemies, by Thomas Baxter under a Rhode Island Authority, but obtained restitution with decree for 150 pounds. [Savage 3:188].
• Emigration: aboard the "Truelove," 1635, London, England to Boston. 309
• Background Information. 62 Samuel was a fisherman and a sailing master. He ran a packet for awhile between Boston and Cape Cod. In 1653 he took settlers to OysterBay, Long Island, New York on his boat called the "Desire of Barnstable."
He had vessels employed in coasting and the fisheries. In 1647, the town granted him liberty to erect a fish house on the point of land below his house, now called Crowell's point.
He moved to Boston about 1658 and died there in 1663. He was married to Thomasine, the daughter of William Lumpkin of Yarmouth.
