• Background Information. 730 Richard was a younger son of Almeric and Alina. He married Alicia Carleton, and held a fourth of a knight's fee of the honor of Lancaster at Galfi in Norfolk. [Testa de Nevil, pg. 290] Richard was the founder of the House of Bulter of Roucliff. He held Roucliffe as a grant from Theobald Walter. The deed for this grant was dated 11 Jan 1265 [Dodsworth] and was confirmed by Richard de Thornhill [Whalley Coucher Book, vol. ii. p. 422, Chetham Soc.]. He was a witness to an undated charter of Robert Banastre to Robert de Samelsbury. And another undated charter made between 1270 and 1280. He often appears as a witness with his brother William.
