Thomas Oxenbridge

  General Notes:

The Visitations of the County of Sussex Made and Taken in the Years 1530 , p.14, Oxenbridge Pedigree names Thomas Oxenbridge of Beckley the father of Robert Oxenbridge. This Robert Oxenbride is followed by his son and next his grandson, both whom are also named Robert Oxenbridge. ¹²⁹⁵

The Oxenbridge family resided at Beckley until the time of Richard II, when one branch having according to Leland, married the heiress of Alard (the admiral) and assumed his arms; having also purchased Ford Place in Brede.

The earliest known Oxenbrigge of Beckley was John de Oxenbrigge. From him descended three brothers, Thomas, Walter and Geoffrey. From Thomas, the elder, sprung two important branches, those of William and Robert Oxenbridge.
