Thierry I, count of Montbéliard and Bar-le Duc, died in 1105, and the son of Louis Count of Montbéliard and Sophia, Countess of Bar-le-Duc, died in 1092. Sophia was the daughter of Frederick II, Duke of Upper Lorraine and Mathilde of Swabia. Louis was the son of Richwin, count of Scarpone, by Hildegarde of Egisheim, daughter of Hugo VI, count in Nordgau and Egishem.
