In the Wilshire Domesday, one Humphrey de Lisle (or Humfridus de Insula) is recorded as holding of the King a Fief of not less than twenty-seven Manors. Humphrey de L'Isle was in attendance at Hastings in Jan 1091, of King William II who was about to embark for Normandy. [Monasticon, viii, 1299; ii.] This Humphrey appears to have left a daughter and sole heiress called Adelina de Insula. The husband of Adelina de Insula was Reginald de Dunstanville, whose marriage to so wealthy an heiress bespeaks some Court influence.
Adelina de L'Isle, wife of Reginald de Dunstanvill, survived her husband. In her widowhood and yet previous to the year 1126, she granted to Tewkesbury Abbey the land of Poltone for the soul of her husband [Monasticon, ii, pp. 66, 86]. The sons of Adeliza L'Isle and Reginald de Dunstanvill were Robert and Alan de Dunstanvill. Robert died without issue and left his estates to his younger brother, Alan.
