Thomas de Multon inherited the office of forester of Cumberland from his mother, and in 36 Henry III, paid a fine of four hundred marks to the crown for trespassing in the forest there, and for the future enjoyment of all the privileges which his ancestors had possessed with the forestership. In 42 Henry III, he had a military summons to march with the other northern barons into Scotland for the purpose of rescuing the Scottish Monarch, King Henry's son-in-law from the restraints imposed upon him by his own subjects. He was again called to service in 55 Henry III to take up arms against the Welsh.

Thomas de Multon married Maud, the only daughter and heiress of Hubert de Vaux, lord of Gillesland, and with this marriage he aquired her father's lordship. He died in 1270 and was succeeded by his son, also named Thomas de Multon.

Thomas de Multon
, 1st son of Thomas de Multon of Egremont by his 2nd wife, Ada, daughter and coheir of Hugh de Morville, Forester of Cumberland, was his mother's heir. His father gave him the Lincs. manors of Whaplode and Holbeach, and at Michaelmas 1242 he accounted for his relief on succession to his mother's inheritance. Before Michaelmas 1252, he had confirmation of all the liberties of the forest of Cumberland as his ancestors had held them, and custody of Carlisle Castle.

Thomas was summoned for service in Wales in 1258. In 1264-65 he sided with the Barons against the King, but it is uncertain whether it was he or his namesake nephew of Egremont who was by them appointed Warden of the Coast, and (or) keeper of Carlisle Castle. On 18 Jun 1266 he had a safe conduct to come to Court, provided he kept faith with the King and his heirs, and, in July 1270, protection for 3 years.

Thomas married Maud, daughter and heir of Hubert de Vaux of Gilsland. He died before 14 Jan 1270/1. His widow died shortly before 28 May 1293.
