• Background Information. 713 • Sir William de Malpas, was the son and heir of David de Malpas, or David le Clerc and his wife Catherine, daughter of Owain Vaghan, lord of Meilor. He left no legitimate issue with his wife, Margaret, daughter of Cadogan de Lynton, but he did with his mistress, Beatrix Montalt, the daughter the Seneschal of the earl of Chester. Their children were:
• Sir David de Malpas, "the Bastard," a.k.a. Sir David le Clerc, who became the heir to his father's moiety of Malpas. David married Constance, the daughter of Owain de Kevelioc, prince of Powys. • Roger de Malpas, ancestor of the Malpas of Hampton. • NINE daughters, which are not mentioned by Ormerod on the Malpas pedigree.
