• Background Information. 141 In 1203, the three sisters of Ducan Darel were named as Emma de Lund, Muriel Dairel and Helewise de Arel. They were recorded due to cases relating to Ducan Darel's land in Deighton and to the dower of his widow in Lund [Curia Regis Rolls, vol. ii, pp. 227, 252, 253, 287]. In the same year, "Marmaduke de Tueng" was a defendant against the widow for a third of four carucates in Lund [Idem, vol. iii, p. 10]. This conforms with the pedigree put forward in a case of 1309 relating to Lund, when it was stated that from Emma, one of the three sisters of Duncan Darel, her interest in Lund descended to her son Marmaduke, the ancestor of the then Marmaduke de Thweng [Guisborough Cart., vol. ii, p. 279]
