• Background Information. 1025 The manor of Hampton-in-Arden was sold by Ralph de Haia to Robert de Arden or Arderne. Robert's father is called Ralph de Hampton by Dugdale. From Robert, the manor of Hampton was passed to Robert's brother Roger de Arderne, whose grandson, Sir Hugh, son of William, held the half-fee about 1230.

• Background Information. The Hampton-in-Arden family is not related to the family begun by Turchil de Arden. The Hampton-in-Arden family started with Ralph de Hampton who bought Chadwick from Roger de Mowbray. Ralph's son, Robert, purchased the manor of Hampton. Robert was one of three brother, all whom to the surname of Arden.
