• Background Information: 252 Among the heads of families who asked to settle at Nuestra Señora del Rosario, Rio de Truchas, in 1754, were four Espinosas, apparently brothers, or at least members of one and the same family: Salvador, Ventura, Miguel, and Tadeo. Salvador had bought land in Chimayó as early as 1736. These four are possibly the sons of Nicolás Espinosa who was among the original settlers of Santa Cruz de la Cañada.
