Charles Cawley's Medieval Lands, Núño Menéndez "maybe identified as the conde Núño Menéndez who was defeated and killed when he launched a rebellion against García King of Galicia in early 1071 [David, P. (1947) Etudes historiques sur la Galice et le Portugal du VI au XII siècles (Lisbon-Paris), p. 298, cited in Barton (2002), p. 256]. He was named as father of Gómez and Fernando in a charter issued by the latter 27 Dec 1127 [ Barton (2002), p. 256]." He married Sancha Viegas of unknown parentage. Barton names Gómez Núñez as son of Nuño Menéndez and Sancha Viegas [ Barton (2002), p. 256].
