Lope Díaz was the son of Diego López conde y señor de Vizcaya and his wife María Sánchez. He suceeded his father as señor de Vizcaya in 1124. Lope's first wife was Mencía Arias. His second wife was Aldonza Rodríguez, daughter of conde Rodrigo Vélez and his wife Urraca Álvarez. His second son, Diego López I was the son of his second wife, Aldonza.
Lope married Aldonza Rodríguez, daughter of Rodrigo Vélaz and Urraca Álvarez. (Aldonza Rodríguez was born in Castilla, Iberia and died after 15 May 1207.)
