On Thursday, May 1, 2025, Margot Hopkins died at the age of 88 in Santa Maria, CA. She was born in northern Colorado's small town of Greeley. She liked telling a story about horse riding near Estes Park in the Rocky Mountains. A spirited horse took off with her, left the trail and galloped in every different direction. That ride kick-started a life that took her, the love of her life, Lt. Colonel David Hopkins, and family across the country where she lived in eight different places.

Ending up in Santa Maria, she earned an Early Childhood Certificate from Alan Hancock and began a 17-year teaching career. As Lead Teacher at Marian Children's Center, Margot nurtured her passion for helping children feel good about themselves and the world around them. The 1994 publication of a book she co-authored with Debbie Duguran was a career milestone. Titled Thematic Learning Adventures, this weekly curriculum guide helped teachers develop their lesson plans. Margot was respected in the community for a tradition of positive learning experiences for children. She loved gourmet cooking, long walks, traveling, nature, reading, fashion, creativity and close friendships.

Margot Hopkins is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, David Hopkins and parents, William Henry and Mary Deane Blair. She is survived by daughters, Mary Celeste Hopkins and Cecilia Hopkins; son, David Hopkins II; grandchildren, James Jefferson II, Timothy Carvalho, David Hopkins III and Lauren Hopkins; great-grandchildren Andrew Jefferson and Taylor Jefferson; brother, William Henry Blair II.
