• Background Information. 252 Toribio Ortiz married Leonarda de la Vega y Coca on June 14, 1735. In 1758 he was after part of the Cienega grant which had belonged to his late father-in-law, Miguel de la Vega y Coca. His known children were: María Isidora, born April 6, 1750; María Barbara, December 8, 1751; María Josefa, April 5, 1753; María Gertrudis, December 16, 1754; María Guadalupe, October 27, 1757; José Antonio, March 12, 1759; and Antonio Matías, who ran away and perished with the demented José Reaño, husband of his first cousin, Ana María Ortiz. Toribio was mayordomo of the Conquistadora Confraternity in 1774, and was also a charter officer of the Confraternity of Our Lady of Light.48
