• Background Information. 510 "In Zacatecas on 11 Dec 1694, Capt. Juan Páez Hurtado, for the purpose included in his excellency's directions, brought to the royal accounting house José López, mestizo, a native of the Villa de Los Lagos, forty-seven, average height, straight black hair, dark-skinned, married to María de Osuna, española, forty, with a child named María de la Encarnación, five. He received 300 pesos in reals from the hands of the lord judges and treasury officials, to which I attest. The lords and the Captain signed it. In the city of Nuestra Señora de los Zacatecos, on 14 Feb 1794, before the judges & treasury officials, José López's family pass muster on horseback, with two people rather than three because María de Osuna died on 9 Feb 1695.
