• Background Information. 1459 William and his wife, Alice, had a son, William Fortescue, who was alive in 1394 and was the father of the William Fortescue who married Elizabeth Beauchamp. (According to this article, this William was omitted on the Pedigree in Vivian's Visitation of Devon on p. 352.) This William was succeeded by another William Fortescue who married Elizabeth Branscombe, widow, who was a daughter of Sir John Beauchamp, and sister and co-heir of Thomas Beauchamp, of Ryme, co. Somerset. William Fortescue and Elizabeth Beauchamp were the parents of William and John. The eldest son, William, married Isabel Falwell, and was the father of John Fortescue of Wimpston who married Jane Preston.
