• Background Information. 160 Thomas Hext of Kingston, Staverton, co. Devon, married Joane Fortesce of Staverton, co. Devon. Thomas senior died before 8 May 1497 according to a writ for Inq.p.m. on estate issued to escheator of Devon. He is referred to as deceased in the Inq.p.m. on the estates of his mother-in-law, Joan (Prutteston) Fortescue. Joane Fortescue was the daughter of John and Joan (Prutteston) Fortescue of Whympston. Joan was named as a widow on the Devon Lay Subsidey Rolls 1524-7 on the 1524 list, but was absent of the 1525 list.
