Geoffrey I St. Leger, in about 1180 granted and confirmed to the Priory of St. Pancras of Lewes all of the fee of Cortesley which "my father" gave and at Wartling a meadow and Childehurst a messuage [The Chartulary of the Prior of St. Pancras of Lewews, Sussex Record Society, 38:150] Geoffrey I St. Leger appears in suits with Emma Germunville concerning Peelings in Westham in 1190 & 1104 ]Stenton, The Great Roll of the Pipe . . . of King Richard the First, Michaelmas 1190, Pipe Roll Society, 1:128, Michaelmas 1194, 5:226] and in 1200 he was in suits with Roger ad Fontem in Wartiling [ibid. 1:173, 183]. In 1202 & 1203, he was in suits with the abbot of Holy Trinity, Hastings, concerning the advowsome of the church of Sallington [ibid, 1:118, 229].
