John (I) St. Leger appears to have been dead in 1312 when Giles de Brianson was holding in Wartling with his wife Isabel, widow of John St. Leger [The Victoria History of the County of Sussex, 1937, 9:566]. In 1294, William Echyngham died holding land in Sokenershe, Sussex, of John de Leger of Wartling [Calendar of Inquisitions Post Mortem, 3:113, no. 191].
