William le Botiler of Wem, Salop, son & heir of Ralph le Botiler of Oversley, co. Warwick, by Maud, daughter & heir of William Pantulf of Wem. He succeeded his father shortly before 3 Jul 1281.

Ralph le Botleler married Matilda (Maud or Margaret) Pantulf sometime before 1243. In 1246, when 5 fees of Wem are marked as quit of the scutage of Gannok, the person acquiited was "Ralph le Buteiler who has William Pantulf's heir to wife." A suit, on 3 Nov 1253, was heard at Westminster [Placita Michaelmas Term, 37 Hen III, m. 32 dorso] which read "Ralph le Butiler and Matilda his wife sued William del Atre for 7 acres of bosc in Wemme, as the right of Matilda, whereof Hugh de Pantun, Matilda's grandfather, was once siezed. From Hugh the right descended to William, and from William to Elizabeth and Matilda. Elizabeth died without an heir." A Writ of Diem clausit on Ralph's death, dated 3 Jul 1281, states that he was found to have held the Manor of Wem, of the inheritace of Matilda his wife, still surviving.
