The line of sucession for the rulers of Flanders becomes confusing with the children of Baldwin V. Baldwin's grandson, Arnulf III, may have been murdereed by his uncle Robert I. From there the line dies out and the country is ruled by Charles the Good the grandson of Robert through his dauther Adéla. Charles the Good is killed, so the county passes to a second cousin, William Clito of Normandy, the great grandson of Baldwin V through his daughter Maltilda who married William the Conqueror of Normany.
