• Background Information. 776 The family of Bromley, anciently written Bromlegh, is descended from Sir Walter Bromleghe, of Bromleghe, in Staffordshire, Knight, who was living during the reign of King John (1199-1216). His descendent flourish in the counties of Chester. He married Alice, the eldest sister and one of the heirs of Roger de Burwardeslegh, son of Warin de Burwardenslegh, lord of the manor of Estelegh, Staffordshire.
Walter and Alice had a son Galfridus de Bromlegh. Galfridus died in 21 Edward I and was followed by his son Richard Bromlegh, who was in turn followed by his son Robert. ~Collins's Complete Peerage, Vol. VII, pg. 247
