The Lordship of Burgh by sands passed to an heiress married to a man named Ranulf Engaine. Ranulf's parentage has not been identified, hut his son was a benefactor of Dunfermline Abbey, and it seems likely that Ranulf belonged to one of the Engaine families which entered the service of King David (of Scotland). p. 67
