The Lordship of Burgh by sands passed to an heiress married to a man named Ranulf Engaine. Ranulf's parentage has not been identified, hut his son was a benefactor of Dunfermline Abbey, and it seems likely that Ranulf belonged to one of the Engaine families which entered the service of King David (of Scotland). p. 67

Ranulf Engaine, married the heiress of Robert d'Estrivers, and with her acquired the barony of Burgh in Cumberland, which their grand-daughter brought to her husband de Morevilla.
