John Phinney, Jr. was born 24 Dec 1638 in Plymouth Colony and died in 1718/19. He married Mary Rogers, 10 Aug 1664. Mary was born 22 Sep 1644 daughter of Joseph and Hannah Rogers, and the granddaughter of Thomas Rogers of the Mayflower. John Jr.'s descendant generally spell their surname to Phinney, unlike other branches of the family that spell it Finney.

John Phinney left a will on 19 April 1718 in Barnstable, Barnstable County, Massachusetts; bequests were as follows: After The Decease of my wife I Give to my Daughter Mary Eastland my best feather Bed and Coverlid and bolster and one pillow. All the Rest of my movable Estate I Give Equally to my Three Daughters vis: To Mary Eastland, Mercy Crocker and Reliance Morton. The Remainder of the Money Due To me from my son Ebenezer Phinney after my wife's Decease I Give Equally To my Seven sons vs: John Phinney, Joseph, Thomas, Ebenezer, Samuel, Benjamin and Jonathan Phinney. I Do Constitute . . . son John Phinney my onely and sole Executor. The signature was recorded as "John Phinney". The witnesses were: Moodey Russell, Martha Russell, James Paine.
