Land that became Teffon Evias manor was held in 1086 by Alfred of Marlborough. Alfred also held an estate in Herefordshire and Teffont was granted, possibly before 1100, to Harold of Ewyas (fl. 1100) and passed to his son Robert of Ewyas (fl. 1147). The overlordship passed like Lydiard Tregoze with the honor of Ewyas to Robert's son, Robert of Ewyas (d. 1198), to that Robert's daughter Sibyl (d. c. 1236), the wife of Robert Tregoze (d. c. 1214), to Robert's and Sibyl's son Robert (d. 1265), [Ex. e Rot. Fin. (Rec. Com.), i. 307; Herefs. Domesday (Pipe R. Soc. N.S. xxv), 111; Rot. de Ob. et Fin. (Rec. Com.), 528] and to that Robert's son John. After John Tregoze's death in 1300 his daughter Sibyl (d. 1334), the wife of William de Grandison, was allotted the three parts of the fee held under her by Reynold Hussey.
