~Boyer's Medieval English Ancestors of Robert Abell, pg. 138, Matthew de Holand was living at the time of King John (1199-1216) and had a son named Robert (his named appears in records from 1225-1242) who married Cecily, the daughter of Alan de Columbers. Cecily and Robert had a son named Thurstan. 721
Noted events in his life were:
• Background Information. 767 In the Lancashire Final Concords, p.47, Robert is is named as paying five marks of silver to Simon de Halsall for releasing two teamlands in Upholland. This is convirmed by a find levied at Westminster, 29 Oct 1224. In 1241.
Robert de Holand and his son Thurstan were taken and lodged in the King's prison upon the charge of having set fire to one of the houses of a certain John Mansell in Wigan [Curia Regis Roll (Trinity Term 1241), No 121, m.26d, and 32]. The Sheriff was directed to releaxe them if they would find good and sure pledges that they would appear before the King to reply to the charge. Robert appeared on the appinted day, 7 Jun, and defended his whole action, and "put himself for good or evil upon the country, to wit, upon twelve knights above suspicion and upon four vills of the neighbourhood of Wigan." Thurstan did not appear at this first hearing, but appeared before the Justices on 23 July. There are no more records of this event, so it is possible the sistuation did not go any futher than this. At the time, Robert's son Thurstand was of estate.
Thurston was the eldest son and heir of Robert. Other sons were Adam, from whom sprange the Holands of Exton, Richard from whom descended the Holand of Sutton, Matthew, Rober and Roger. Robert married Cicely de Columbers, daughter of Alan de Columbers and Cicely de Walton.
