Thomas Wolcott was living in Tolland in 1525. He appears in the earliest existing lay subsidy tax roll for Tolland. He was taxed two shillings six pence on land valued at five pounds. He again appears on the 1535, 1539 and 1550 Tolland subsidy rolls.

Another older Wolcott named William also appears on the 1525-1539 tax rolls of Tolland, and he may possibly be the father of Thomas.

Thomas was a "tucker." Tucking and fulling were names for the finish process of cloth making. This is the process of soaking and beating newly woven cloth, usually by means of a water driven mill.

Thomas's name shows up in several wills of the period. He was a witness to the will of William Howe of Tolland, which was dated in 1551. Thomas was also a witness for the will of John Seller of Tolland, dated 1553.

Thomas appears to have been the father of the following generation of Tolland Wolcotts. They were Thomas, John, Henry and Roger Wolcott. All were adults living in 1672.
