Juan de Vargas Machuca was at Guadalupe del Paso in 1681, single and eighteen years of age when he passed muster in that year. His wife was Ana Olguín, and a daughter of theirs, Rosa, became the wife of Blas Martín in 1705. Both her parents were dead at this time.

Juan de Vargas Machuca was a native of Jalapa, the son of Diego de Vargas Machuca and Sebastiana Medina Baca. On Oct. 26, 1681, he married Ana López Olguín [DM, 1681, no. 5].
