Francis Ross and his wife Rachel were living in Meadsville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania in 1831. From the History of Crawford County, Pennsylvania, p. 395:
"Finally, on Saturday, September 27, 1831, representatives of four churches -- Randolph, Carmel, Allegheny and Rockdate - met in the academy building and formed the Baptist Church of Meadville. The membership then embraced fourteen persons, viz: Francis Ross, Samuel Harroun, Justin Dewey, Stillman Dewey, John Goodwill, Thomas Sails, Samuel Kirkpatrick, Rachel Ross, Maria Harroun, Mary Dewey, Susan Dewey, Lucy Goodwill, Jan Van Horne and Julia Weller.

Francis Ross married Rachel Evans of Fayette county, Pennsylvania. They had eleven children, of whom ten attained maturity:
• Mary, died at the age of ninety-four years
• Sarah, married James Walker, who settled in Crawford County, Pennsylvania.
• Nancy, married Abraham Miller, settled in Iowa.
• John, b. abt 1810, Crawford, Pennsylvania, died in Green County, Pennsylvania., m. Sarah, daughter of Enoch Evans.
• Robert, married Tabitha Hoard, settled on a farm in Fayette county, Pennsylvania
• William, resided on the Ross homestead, then revomed to Iowa, m. Sarah J. Hatfield of Uniontown, Pennsylvania
• Elizabeth, married 1st, Isaac Blair, 2nd, Rev. Thomas Rose, Baptist minister, and spend most of their lives in Greene County, Pennsylvania
• Rachel, married Rev. Huston Stewart, a Baptist minister of Blacksville, Monogalia county, removing later to Marion county, where they both died.
• Lucinda, died unmarried on the homestead in 1901 at the age eighty-two years.
• Maria, died at the home of her brother John Ross at the age of eighty-one years.
